For 25 years, Alaska 529 has championed children’s education. They know early reading is a cornerstone of children’s language, social-emotional, and intellectual development. This year’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library is sponsored in large part through our new partnership with them.

What is Alaska 529? It is an investment account program that offers an affordable, flexible way to invest in your or your child’s future education.

You can use your 529 savings for a variety of programs, including K-12 education, apprenticeships, vocational school, college, graduate school, loan repayment, or postsecondary credentials. Visit the Alaska 529 website to find out how you can get started saving for your child’s future.

 

Thank you for helping get books into the hands of Southeast Alaska’s children, Alaska 529!

Children enrolled in the program receive a free, high quality book in the mail each month from birth until they turn five. The first book for every enrolled child is The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper. After that, all books are geared toward the specific age of the child. By the time they enter kindergarten, children will have their own library of books and have already developed a lasting love of reading! Studies show children enrolled in the program have more developed social-emotional skills and are more prepared to enter school and become strong readers.

In Juneau, children enrolled in the program also receive a monthly Juneau Parent Bulletin, filled with ideas for reading with children and information about free local family events. Families are also invited to monthly Family Nights facilitated by the Juneau City and Borough Parks & Recreation and Southeast Childhood Collective.
